The short version. Everything here is made by hand, mostly to order, by one person in Ames, Iowa. If something arrives broken or doesn’t work, tell me and I’ll make it right. If you change your mind on a stock item, send it back within 30 days. Made-to-order and custom items are a different story, and that’s what most of this page is about.
Getting hold of me
Before starting any return, message me through the contact page with your order number and a description of the problem. Photos help. Returns sent without letting me know first can’t be processed, because I won’t know whose they are.
Stock items
Items shipped from stock — badges, trim, washers, screw caps, decals, marker light sets and the like.
- 30 days from delivery to start a return.
- Item must be unused, uninstalled and in the condition it arrived.
- You pay return shipping. I’ll refund the item price once it’s back and checked.
- Original shipping isn’t refunded.
Anything that’s been installed, drilled, cut, painted, wired in or adhered to a car can’t be returned. Once a badge’s adhesive has touched paint, it’s yours.
Custom and made-to-order items
Custom marker light text, custom badges, custom candles, anything engraved with your car or your name — these are made for you and can’t be resold.
- No returns or refunds once production has started, unless the item is faulty or I’ve made a mistake.
- If I got the text, colour or spec wrong against what you ordered, that’s on me and I’ll remake it at no cost.
- If you gave me the wrong spelling or the wrong spec, I’ll remake it at cost.
Pre-orders and deposits
Some products — the DRL sets, for example — are sold as pre-orders with a deposit, because parts have to be ordered and built before they can ship.
Cancelling a pre-order
- Before I order parts or start building: cancel for any reason and your deposit is refunded in full.
- After parts are ordered and your set is in the build queue: the deposit is no longer refundable. By that point the boards, housings and lenses for your set have been bought or made specifically for it.
- I’ll always tell you which side of that line your order is on. Just ask.
If I can’t deliver
If I can’t build your order — parts fall through, something doesn’t work, life happens — you get a full refund including the deposit and any shipping paid. That’s unconditional.
Delays
I give honest dates and I miss them sometimes. If a build runs past the date I gave you, I’ll tell you before you have to ask. A delay on its own isn’t grounds for a deposit refund, but if a delay makes the order useless to you, talk to me — I’d rather sort it out than have you stuck.
Lighting products
Damaged on arrival
Tell me within 7 days of delivery with photos of the item and the packaging. I’ll replace it or refund it, my choice of which, and I’ll cover the shipping both ways.
Faults
Electronics are covered for one year from delivery against failures that aren’t your fault — a board that dies, an LED that goes out, a controller that stops responding. I’ll repair or replace it. You pay shipping to me, I pay shipping back.
Not covered: water damage from a housing that was opened or modified, wiring it to the wrong voltage, physical damage, or anything cut, drilled or spliced beyond a normal install.
Changing your lens after you’ve bought
DRL housings are sealed to keep water out, so the lens can’t be swapped at home. If you need a different lens tint — usually because you’ve added aero turn covers — here’s how it works:
- Contact me first. Don’t send anything back unannounced.
- You pay shipping to me. I inspect the set.
- If the housings are in reusable condition, I’ll rebuild them with the lens you want for a $50 rebuild fee plus return shipping. This fee applies to DRL sets only.
- If a housing is cracked, water damaged or otherwise beyond normal wear, it can’t be rebuilt and you’d need a new set.
You can avoid all of this by ordering smoke if there’s any chance you’ll want aero turn covers later. It’s on the product page for a reason.
Service and repairs
I service what I build, including after the warranty has run out. If something breaks, gets damaged, or stops working years from now, get hold of me before you start pulling it apart.
Send it back rather than fixing it yourself
On anything with moving parts or a sealed housing — the Pegasus Eye headlights especially — I’d rather you send it to me. I can source the right components and I know how the assembly goes together. A failed actuator or a damaged relay connector is a straightforward fix on my bench and an expensive mess on a kitchen table.
What it costs
- Depends entirely on the product and how bad the damage is.
- I’ll look at it and quote you before any work starts. Nothing gets done without you agreeing to the price first.
- If it turns out not to be worth repairing, I’ll tell you that too.
- Out of warranty, you cover shipping both ways.
I’d rather fix a five-year-old set than sell you a new one. These cars are forty years old and the parts on them should be repairable too.
Off-road and show use
Some lighting products are sold for off-road, show and private property use, and may not be DOT approved for public roads. That’s stated on the product page. Buying a product that says so and then finding it isn’t street legal where you live isn’t grounds for a return.
Refunds
Refunds go back to the original payment method once I’ve received and checked the item. Give it a few business days to appear — that part is your bank’s timing, not mine.
